Those of you who know me well know that I have a thing for names. I will probably be discovering names I love for the rest of my life. So, it's no surprise that I had a list a mile long before we even found out about our June-Bug. Thought I'd share as it will be fun to look at years down the road while laughing and asking June-Bug, "Can you imagine? You were almost a _____!"
Some of these I adore,
some; not so much.
In no particular order,
Boys:
Adriel: of God's flock
Ezra: helper
Ellis: my God is Jehovah
Audin: old friend
Ainsley: place name
Girls:
Adah: lovely addition
Adair: ornament
Ethne: little fire
Elodie: white blossom
Eleanor: shining light
Looks like it'll either be "A" or "E" (Daddy, of coarse, has a say too.) In all honesty, this baby will probably not be named until we see it. I have a couple favorites but nothing that really pulls me...maybe I'm having more than 1? (:
Let me know what you like, and what you hate! I know what I love and I'm not easily swayed, but I love to hear everyone's thoughts...

I'm not crazy about Ezra or Adair. I like Ellis the best in your boys names, and I love, love love Ethne. It's so beautiful. Loves the meaning too!
I LOVE Ellis for the boys name - that's my favorite - and I like Audin, but like Aiden even better....not crazy about Ezra either!
For the girls I like Adah the best, then Elodie, but Ethne's meaning is more than likely what you will get....June babies...correction....Gemini babies are a handful...those split personalities will give you a run for your money...moody, loud, outgoing, type A one minute then shy, quiet, type B the next! I only know this because my birthday is June 19th....and I happen to also know a lot of other Gemini babies and we all have the same traits....yikes!
I am with you though.....you won't know for sure until you see his/her precious little face...or hear him/her! We were convinced that Owen was Connor until we saw our 20 week ultrasound....then we knew for sure that he was NOT a Connor, but Owen...and he was from that day on....weird how that works! And we had no idea for sis....we thought for sure she was a boy - we had Liam picked out, then when we found out she was a girl and once we digested that info...she was just Bella...no questions and no doubt about it.
Did you have Ethne picked out too for Gwen? Or am I imagining a story I thought I heard? Just curious.... We thought about our girl's name we had picked out when we were pregnant with Owen....Kiana...but it just wasn't a fit for the 2nd baby. Ethne's meaning is a fit for Gwen...but the actual name might be more of a fit for this little Gemini....AND the meaning too! Can't wait until June to find out! :-)
I think Ainsley is adorable.... And I picture you with and Ethne or an Eleanor.
I know it bugs people to think of what it would be shortened to ... but Eleanor would make a lovely Ellie!!!! I love that!
Adah is one that we had considered with Ava if I remember correctly!
Any name you pick will be beautiful! So what is your favorite boy name... I am pretty sure I know the girl one....
Audri (sp?) is Daddy's favorite girl name, but if it has to be from Mommy's list, the ONLY one I like is Ethne. I think we had decided on Ethne Alaina. I don't really like any of the boy names, so I guess we better work on that list. I make it really easy on Terah, I just wait for her to give me a list of her favorites and then pick the one I like the best and we meet in the middle. Gwyneth was actuallly a comprimise, she wanted Ethne - I didn't like it at the time. She picked both of the boy names, but I didn't really mind.
As far as Stacy says with the Gemini babies having split personalities, Lance got one and I got the other! :)
I know a few really lovely Ainsley's...but they are all girls! :) I still love the name though for either b or g.
For girls I also like Adah and Ethne from your list.
Have to say I kinda like Ezra. (I love Ezra & Nehemiah in the Bible...so much cool stuff to be gleaned). Its also fairly unusual & bold, yet not outrageously weird.
Jack and I had a girls name picked out when I was pregnant with Levi...I still love the name, but found out a couple of months ago that it is a very nasty swear word in Greek used to insult women. So....I suppose things worked out for the best!....even if a lot of ignorant Aussies think I named my son after a brand of jeans. :)
While we're speaking of names, I always thought your name was quite pretty...then I stumbled on it in Genesis...and it became pretty AND slightly unusual. ;) (Its ok, I was named after a carpet store & Im just giving you cheek :S)
Have fun praying over and picking out names. Ignore silly women like me and go with whatever the Holy Spirit is convicting you of. I know 'a rose by any other name would smell as sweet'...yet I see in scripture so many times of a name holding particular significance, or of God even commanding a partciular name be given.
When Jack and I named 'Amber-Rose Jean' it was long before she was born. Aside from it matching Jaydes name (green jewel) & the Australian colours (green & gold), Jean is one of my middle names, a variant of Jack and a variant of Jacks mums name. We figured that the jewel Amber was from the blood of a tree, that Christ was called the 'Rose of Sharon', that thorns were symbollic of his crucifixion, and that Jean (God is gracious) represented our grace based salvation. So we figured it was the 'whole message'-Christs blood shed for us+the grace of God- summed up in a name. We have a piece of paper with a bunch of potential names on it that we wrote while I was pregnant, and next to that combination Jack had written, 'a precious jewel, fleeting like a rose, born of great pain'. It was kind of awful in a way to find that paper after she was born, yet we knew that we had chosen from our hearts the right name for her, and it was such a blessing.
Enjoy this time picking out names for your newest addition...its such a joyous time. *cluck cluck cluck cluck*.
Karina, Yes, my name is in the Bible, only I *believe* it's meant to be pronounced with a long "E" (at least that's what my parents always told me) My middle name is also Jean, as is my mother's and my Grandmother's!
I think the story of Amber's name is beautiful and is just another example of how I believe God really does lay the right name on our hearts...I think names are very important.
Daddy, It's Audry...and I'm not crazy about it. I might be inclined to do Audra, however. And yes, we had agreed on "Ethne Alana" until Gwyneth was born and you couldn't stick to it! (: God just gave me Camden and Jude's names and I knew instantly what they were to be named. It wasn't a question.
Crystal, I would be inclined to shorten Eleanor to "Ella" wich is a problem, being as she has a cousin with the same name! (: I don't think Ryan considered anything other than Ava(: but I realize the problem it presents, even though it is one of my favorites. Ava is the only reason we didn't name Gwyneth Adah, instead. (I looked up "Stella" the other day, out of curiosity, and it means "star" wouldn't that be a perfect addition for you guys? (: )
Adriel was my favorite, but is much too similar to Heidi's girl name (and I believe she's having a girl) Then God gave me Ellis. I can't even remember were I heard it, but I looked up the meaning and "WoW!" My ONLY reservation about it is that people would think I was saying "Alice" I also actually really love Ezra, but have heard it a lot lately and I'm not sure if Jude and Ezra are "too much"
Staci, Lyle's birthday is the day after yours and he is the easiest going, mellowist person I have ever met!
Dana, thank you for loving Ethne! Not many people do! Does anyone remember the movie "Four Feathers" with Heath Ledger and Kate Hudson? Well, that's where I got it from! (:
Wow, it's so interesting to hear everybody's opinions. Now I'm going to give you mine because I know it's so much more important than anyone else's! =) j/j
I'm with Karina. I really like the name Ezra. The only reason I don't have it on my list is that you have it and Jay hates it, of course.;) Audin is neat but a lot like Aiden which is way over-used. I like Adriel but it is a lot like our girl name.(That doesn't matter to me, just so you know) Ellis and Ainsley are middle of the road for me. Like 'em, but don't *love* 'em. My order: Ezra, Adriel, Ainsley, Ellis, Audin.
For the girls, It's gotta be Ethne. You love it too much and if you have another girl there is no way you can name her something else. My order: Ethne, Adair, Elodie, Eleanor, Adah.
The only reason the two bottom are on the bottom is because they are really similar to other family members names.
Good luck choosing! At this point, if we have a boy, he'll be called "boy" because we simply can't agree. I admit I am being really picky this time around but the dad's always get their way in the end.
hmmmm...i agree with lyle. maybe cuz i'm his twin - but not too crazy about these names. Ethne the best of these - still like Jada! And Audry would be a very cool name!
need some more options to work with = )
I have never heard the name "Ethne" before and think it is very pretty. Hope everybody doesn't decide to name their kid that, because then it wouldn't be unusual anymore. My real name is Mary and that was soooooo common when I was a girl, and still is. I just KNEW my life would have been different if it had been ROXANNE (my favorite girls' name!).
Hmmmm....that's funny. I don't remember seeing "Audry" on the list. HeHe.
Civilla! Thanks for stopping by! I found you over on Heather's sight and read all of your 50's posts! (Still working on the 60's) I enjoyed them so much! I'm one of those who yearn to have lived in a simpler time and place.
good muzic! like them all...most of them i listen to all the time.
I wasn't going to post anything on this subject as I hate it when people give opinions on the names we pick.
...But since you all are asking I decided to share...But put it on Lyle's blog as he didn't have any comments yet :D
I expect whatever you choose will be "perfect" :)
Terah, I really like Adriel for a boy, and I'm just not sure for the girl??
Just thought I'd put my vote for the boy name!
